I write love letters

Admittedly, I haven't done that many of these. But I'm challenging myself to work on it.

A few months ago, I read a blog by a woman who writes love letters to strangers and leaves them in random places for people to find. I thought that was awesome, so I decided I would start doing it too. I've left letters in coffee shops and grocery stores, on the bus and in clothing stores. Once I left one between two books at a bookstore.

I try to hide them a little bit. Enough that whoever is standing right next to me won't see me leave it there, but not enough that it'll lie there for years without being found. In a grocery store, I put my letter beside a bag of chips, not a jar of pickled anchovies. (I'm not sure those exist, the effect is rather hyperbolic.)

I listen to Stuart McLaen on CBC radio. He said that it has become his personal challenge to write one lette a day. He doesn't write love letters to strangers like I do, but I though the challenge was an awesome one anyway. So I've decided to adopt and adapt it. I'm now personally challenging myself to write one letter a day, and a good portion of them will be love letters to strangers. I'm sure I wont't meet this goal, but by having it I'll do more than I did before.

Anyone want to join me? Writing love letters is fun. You don't have to mail them, just leave them any old place. The key for me is not worrying about perfection. I once wrote a letter and then fidgeted for a week about where to leave it. Just leave it wherever you are. Try to do it every week if every day sounds like too much pressure.

I thought about posting a sample love letter, but then I decided not to. If you want to see one, you'll just have to find one for yourself :) Let's write some love letters, people.

7 quick takes #1

So, since I write on my blog...pretty much never, I thought that I should. And even though I'm often thinking about lots, I don't usually know what to write. So this '7 quick takes' idea seems doable. I should be able to think of 7 things I'm thinking about.

1.  I have one day left at home before I leave for 5 weeks, with only one day at home in the middle. I'm excited and apprehensive, because I know it will be awesome and super fun, but I might mis changing diapers and stuff...never mind. I won't miss that. So I'm actually mostly excited!

2. I have one math test to write and one last project to hand in and then I'm done highschool forever. I don't know how I feel about that either. I'm happy because it means next year I can stop learning about things that nobody needs to know and bore me to tears, and start learning about the things that nobody needs to know but at least I still enjoy :)

3. If anybody didn't see the photo I posted last night on facebook, you should look. It's quite funny. I know I like green, but I didn't think my wardrobe was that monocromatic.

4. I like the Beach Boys.

5. I'm cleaning out under my bed, and now I really feel like I should be on hoarders. Seriously, it's kind of ridiculous. I've found about 20 books, three shoe-boxes,  clothes, an umbrella and, ready for this?... a package of squiggle straws with Justin Beiber's face on them. I can't believe I forgot about those. They will definitely be making an appearance sometime soon.

6. Cleaning my room is almost a teensy bit fun but mostly annoying and really dusty.

7. God is good.

Back to Blogland

The title of this post makes me think of the song "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse...random, I know. But that's kind of what I do. One of my many useless talents is having a song for everything.

I've taken a hiatus from any serious blogging for almost a year. I think my problem with blogging is that I always stop myself from publishing anything because I think it has to have the ultra-important point. But recently, I've had some good fun reading blogs that are not super insightful, profound or even interesting. The charm for me is that they're just kind of pointless, and that makes them entertaining in a way.

It has inspired me into thinking that a little pointlessness can actually make life feel somewhat more purposeful. And that's good, because pointless is what I do best.

So I'm back. And anybody who cares to do so will soon be able to partake in some of my musings and hear about what goes on in the world of Emma.

I found something I like. The rest of the list is good too, but this is my favourite:

102: Have the audacity to be content. It takes courage to be content with who you are and where you're at right now. Millions of advertisements will try to talk you out of it, stay strong my friend.

our home

*A little background: My mum is away this weekend. *

(Cleaning up the living room)

Dad: I hate to think what would happen if the children in this family were left alone in the house for 24 hours. It would be terrible! It would be like Lord of the Flies in here!

(From the kitchen)

*Crash!* "ELI!!"

(A hasty investigation revealed a broken bowl and quite a bit of yogurt on the floor)

Sigh...

facebook fun

Dad had a funny thing happen today. When I got home from youth group, he told me about it. Then he said, "I'm going to post this as my facebook status!"

Observe:

Used Victoria is hmmm?? What is the word? I had someone call tonight wanting to purchase one of the six man hole covers (don't ask) that I have for sale. He was trying to figure out if it would fit his particular hole. So I said "give me your number, and I will go out and measure the exact dimensions and get back to you." To this he responded "I am calling long distance... from Italy!?!"
*A minute or two later*
Dad: Hey! I have three notifications!
*Checks them*
Dad: Whoa, three people commented on my status already...they all think it's hilarious...I'm going to get tons of comments!
Me: This is what happens sometimes when you actually *do* something on your facebook, dad.
 Dad: Huh...this is fun!

okay these are cute: morning glories

I found a 'recipe' online for these and thought they were adorable, and as I already had little faery lights up in my room for ambience, I thought these would add to the decor, and they were super easy to make.

So to make them you have to have the kind of egg cartons on the left in this next picture...the taller, pointy looking kind. It works way better.

Then you cut them up and you can paint them if you so desire. I painted mine white. Then punch a little hole in the bottom and stick them on a string of little christmas lights, or faery lights, whichever you call them. The little kind.

They look very cute :)
